ePowerSaver - A Computer Power Saving Solution for Your Organization

Preparation for the demonstration:

  • Download the demo console application from http://download.wiseagent.com.au
  • Save the file to c:\temp directory
  • Perform virus scan to make sure it is safe
  • Unzip it and save the console application executable to the same directory

The demo program can be launched by simple double click the ePowerSaver.exe from your file browser. Alternative, open a command prompt window and launch it from the DOS prompt.

Once launched, you will see a console window pops up with simple explanation about the demo and what to expect from the demo.

The first demonstration is Monitor power level control. During this demonstration, you will be observed:

  • Monitor being turned to low power mode for 60 seconds (should notice monitor power light changed color)
  • Monitor back to normal display for 60 seconds
  • Monitor power being turned off 60 seconds(should notice monitor power light changed color, or off if it is a laptop computer)
  • Monitor back to normal and completed the monitor power level control demonstration

The second demonstration is hibernation. It´ll schedule the computer to hibernation and resume to normal power level at specified time. User will be given 60 seconds to abort the hibernation.

The third demonstration is standby. It´ll schedule the computer to standby and resume to normal power level at specified time. User will be given 60 seconds to abort the standby.

The last demonstration is ePowerScheduler execution of specified program at given time. It has been hard coded to play mp3 file.

This demo is trying to simulate the real life scenario to turn computer into hibernate at user specified time and resume power next day at specified time. We will be turn the monitor power off to save power after the computer power level is back to normal next day.

To make the demo more interesting, you could perform following tasks before starting the ePowerSaver program to prove to you that it does the proper jobs:

  • start a word document or a notepad, typing in some text without saving it
  • write an email from your outlook, but do not send it or without saving it
  • Select some text from Notepad and do a copy(Don't the paste)
  • start an internet session such as login to your Yahoo email account
  • write an email from your outlook, but do not send it or without saving it

After the computer is resume back to normal power, you'll noticed that nothing is lost during the hibernation and resume power process.

  • All the text still in the word document
  • Your email sesstion still alive in Outlook. You can a "paste" and whatever has been copied before the hibernation will be paste to the email
  • Your internet connection session to the yahoo mail still alive
  • If SingleSignOn is supported in your computer, you'll noticed that it is still working fine as expected

This demo is trying to simulate the real life scenario like reboot computer at specified time and IT Ops can release service patch.
